Family Roots

Family Roots. Mine are a little different than most of my friends. I grew up going to southern gospel music schools every summer and learning shape note music. It all goes back to my great-grandparents, Lena and GT Speer. They started the first family of southern gospel music traveling around and singing with their kids. My grandmother and her siblings carried on the tradition and sang and traveled for many years. It is a history that I am very proud of and we got to celebrate that last night. Last night in Lawrenceburg, Tn, my family was honored for their part in southern gospel music. There was a concert at the Crockett Theater and they were the closing group. They were honored in many ways. The governor of TN declared yesterday was Speer Family day in the state of TN. They also got coon skin hats in honor of Crockett. It was a great night seeing family and getting to support my grandmother (she is the one on the right in the picture).
